My New Bike

So. I've been bombing around town on a bike thats waaayyy too big for me .It's a free bike they were giving away in my building so I've just been putting up with it.
But after a lot of ribbing from a couple friends I decided to buy a project bike to convert into a cute run about town city bike. So here it is.

Its a 1985 Norco Monterey. Made in Japan . Small ,light in pretty good shape. I'm going to swap out the handlebars for 'granny ' style upright bars and get a leather saddle. Chrome fenders(ok mud flaps) and a bell!

I have been inspired by website I stumbled upon ...Copenhagen Chic and by this article.

I test rode a couple of imported Dutch bikes but they are HEAVY! I think they weigh more than me!....which is fine if you're cruising along a dyke but going up some of the steep hill of Vancouver would not be fun. The idea is not to get sweaty in your cute dress and heels!

sleeping beauties

This is the first time the 2 knuckleheads have slept on the same chair. Jeero the ugli doll is there to keep an eye on them.
Came home from Hornby Island to discover that they both have ringworm. Ug. Have to get that cleared up pronto as they are supposed to go to kennels in July when Im in Montreal!

So this is the yukky ringworm patch on Tesas ear. Mouse has a tiny one over her eye. Its just a fungal infection not actually a worm... but it is quite contagious (or is it infectious?) ..hmm suddenly I feel itchy!

More Outrigger

For the practice session this Sunday I decided to learn how to steer. So that's me at the stern of the yellow boat. The coaches are encouraging all novice paddlers to learn how to steer early on so you get better at it. It's a skill you are expected to have. I did some research on t'internet and found the best analogy is that its like trying to push a shopping trolly backwards and keep it going straight ...so next time you're in Sainsbury's give it a go! It was hard to keep on target!! Had moments of brilliance followed by disaster but they said I did better than most by simply not going round in circles.Ha.

Life on the Ocean Wave....

OK.. so these aren't my pictures because I didn't have my camera but these images were taken in English Bay and show the view I had tonight out on the water.

I joined the False Creek Racing Canoe Club this weekend and today was second time out on the water. I am in the novice outrigger canoe group that meets on Sundays and Thursdays.Being out on the water tonight was AMAZING. There was not a breath of wind and the sunset was fantastic. We saw a couple of seals right by the boat and as we were heading in a bald eagle swooped over the bow ! All in downtown Vancouver.

I 'll see how the novice group goes and then maybe work my way up to the race group if Im good enough. They compete in Hawaii every year! :)

I just had to blog this before the moment was lost

Run in the Snow

My running had taken a back seat lately to all to Crossfit Ive been doing so it was nice yesterday to get out of town and head up to Lynn Valley for a little trail run. The valley is a short drive from Vancouver and I headed out there with a couple of friends. We didnt realise ,however, how deep the snow is up there still! So the run turned into a sort of scramble walk. Its a bit nerve wracking running over a tiny wooden bridge over a stream when there is a narrow ridge of snow on that bridge that puts you another 3 feet above the water!
I didn't have my camera but found these shots to give you an idea of what its like. We were out for an hour but only ran about 6km ..thats how slow we had to go. Still, it was fun!
